KIRUBELL

Head Trainer & Behaviorist

Professional Background:

Since 2016, Kirubell has steadily cemented KIBA K9s into a hallmark of quality in New York City, developing an unparalleled reputation for excellent dogmanship, high level problem-solving, and dogs that perform “on cue with heart and soul.” Kirubell’s creative approach to dog training — especially with difficult behavioral cases — has caught the attention of professionals across several disciplines (e.g. behavioral specialists, rescue shelters, sport trainers, veterinarians, working dogs handlers), as well as everyday owners looking to get the best for their pets.

In 2021, Kirubell earned his B.A. in Economics at The King’s College and launched a brick & mortar location for KIBA K9s in Brooklyn. That same year, he was introduced to the protection dogsport of schutzhund (IGP) by 2x IGP World Champion Ivan Balabanov, a pivotal moment that sparked a deep passion for competitive training. Kirubell immediately became an avid student of Ivan’s Training Without Conflict methodology. Before long, Kirubell stumbled upon ringsports (another type of protection dogsport) and through it, discovered the legend Bart Bellon. Compelled by methods and ideas he had never seen before, Kirubell applied to and successfully graduated from Michael & Bart Bellon’s famous NePoPo® Silver School in December of that year.

By the start of 2022, Kirubell became a close mentee of Bart Bellon and subsequently graduated from the NePoPo® Gold School. At the same time, he began working with The Brains Project at Harvard University, actively collaborating with the Hecht Lab’s research and testing peer-reviewed studies on canine behavior, cognition, and olfactory systems. Later that year, Kirubell became a certified instructor for the Animal Behavior College in Santa Clarita where he currently teaches the applied requirements of the Canine Obedience Dog Training (CODT) certification.

The very next year, Kirubell was invited to become an instructor and ambassador of the NePoPo® system by Bart Bellon. He taught five New Gold Schools in 2023, traveling to teach in the Netherlands, England (UK), Texas, and two at home in NYC. He certified 15 students from 6 countries around the globe. During the summer, Kirubell spent two months in Germany apprenticing under Dr. Helmut Raiser, absorbing everything he could from the legendary savant. His education there primarily focused on tracking and IGP protection training / helper work.

In 2024, Kirubell taught four New Gold Schools (in Ohio, Czech Republic, and Mexico), as well as two 3-day seminar-workshops in Brazil and (again) Czech Republic. He was invited to be a guest lecturer for Harvard University’s undergraduate course on Canine Behavior & Evolution and subsequently launched “The Modern E-Collar,” a comprehensive online theory course on electronic collars. The course has been an international success, with 150+ students from 30+ countries, and has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from industry leaders and training enthusiasts alike.

Aside from teaching, Kirubell invested aggressively into his own education in 2024, He attended an intensive training workshop on each U.S. coast — the first in Florida with 2x IGP World Champion Mia Skogster, and the second in Oregon with IGP National Champions and Team USA leaders Marko Koskensalo and Sarah Prelle. From there, he began an educational pilgrimage, traveling across Europe to learn 1-on-1 from some of the best trainers in the world.

Kirubell’s journey started with 5 weeks in Germany, where he not only (again) apprenticed under Dr. Helmut Raiser, but also with 4x IGP World Champion Knut Fuchs. From there, he traveled to Finland and spent 3 weeks with Mia Skogster, focusing on advanced obedience and canine communication. Following that, he returned to Germany and spent one week with IGP World Champion Marcos Ferre, assisting with Team Spain’s preparations for the WUSV World Championships in Meppen. Kirubell also spent an additional week learning from tracking savant Melanie Kruger & assisting with the New Gold School in Poland held by NePoPo® instructors Piotr Kaczmarek and Dorota Gruda-Bednarz.

2025 & Beyond:

In 2025, the train keeps on rolling. Kirubell has had three international events to date: a 5-day workshop for rescue shelters in Korea, a 2-day sport training workshop in Korea, and a 3-day “anything goes” private workshop for a group of 25 professionals in France. He also traveled to Oregon for a second consecutive year, learning intimately from Marko & Sarah, as well as IGP National medalist Tim Cutter.

Kirubell is currently preparing his own dog to compete in schutzhund trials, with the goal of qualifying for the World Championships. Aside from his devotion to dogmanship, Kirubell loves basketball, motorsports, mixed martial arts, and traveling. He’s also the biggest foodie possible

New Gold School + Seminars and Workshops:

Kirubell gives seminars and workshops for professional trainers, sport enthusiasts, animal rescue shelters, law enforcement agencies, and active pet owners. He presents complex, nuanced information in an easily digestible way without sacrificing educational quality and is a respected educator in the canine industry. Kirubell natural talent for feeling/reading dogs often lead to an out-of-the-box yet effective approach to problem-solving. This ability to make effective adjustments *in the moment* has brought him to workshop opportunities around the world, including: England, France, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and throughout the U.S.

As for his NePoPo® New Gold School, it focuses on innovative applications of the NePoPo® system in all fields of dog training. To date, over 20 professional trainers hailing from 11 countries and 3 continents have graduated from his program. These graduates have backgrounds in pet training, shelter rescue, veterinary medicine, agility, schutzhund, ringsports, police/military K9s, and detection/nosework. With an average size of just three students per school, Kirubell’s NePoPo® New Gold program offers a highly intimate & intensive learning experience for those already at a high level.

TIFFANY

Senior Trainer & Behaviorist

Professional Background:

Tiffany’s passion for animals started early. As a kid, she would run home from school and head straight for the TV to watch Animal Planet. Whether it was an episode on big cats and elephants or marine life and birds, she was drawn to the way animals looked, moved, and communicated. Something about it felt honest and clear, and in many ways, more beautiful to her than how people interacted.

Her first hands-on experience in the pet care world came through a job at Paws in Paradise, a dog daycare, grooming, and retail facility in Park Slope. Not long after starting there, a six-month-old puppy was abandoned by its owner, left stranded at the facility. For whatever reason, Tiffany’s gut told her that she needed to take him home, and so she did. Eager to do her best, she began devouring anything she could find about dog behavior.

Despite her best efforts, however, Thaniel developed a fair amount of reactivity toward other dogs, and at times, people. He had grown into a powerful 65-lb dog reflecting some unknown mix of powerful breeds, and this ultimately pushed her to seek professional help. As fate would have it, she came upon KIBA K9s and started working for them on Thaniel’s anti-social behaviors, and that experience gave her both practical insights and a deep appreciation for balanced, thoughtful training.

At the time, she was pursuing her Canine Obedience Dog Training (CODT) certification through Animal Behavior College, where Kirubell happened to be one of her instructors. She completed the program in 2022 with a strong foundation in both dog training and animal husbandry. This accredited program is recognized by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI). To her surprise, the principles she was learning—about motivation, communication, and emotional regulation—proved just as helpful in parenting as they were in dog training.

After graduating, Tiffany returned to KIBA K9s to complete a six-month internship under Kirubell’s mentorship. She dove deep into the craft, gaining hands-on experience with dogs across a wide range of behavioral issues. At the end of her internship, she was offered a full-time position—and officially joined the team in late 2022. Tiffany graduated from NePoPo® Silver School with Michael & Bart Bellon in 2023 and went on to graduate from NePoPo® Gold School in 2024. That same year, she completed the Training Without Conflict program as well as Nino Droewart’s STSK9 course.

Tiffany has a particular love for young dog development and building confidence in dogs through play. Her maternal, encouraging presence helps even the most anxious of dogs quickly feel grounded and supported. Sam, Tiffany’s 10-year-old son, often tags along to training sessions, bringing youthful energy and real-life context to her work. At home, Thaniel (now 7) is still her loyal companion and not only has overcome his reactivity issues, but serves as an incredible helper when training other dogs. Last but not least, Cherry, Tiffany’s 4-year-old guinea pig, completes her pack at home 🙂

YVES

Trainer

Professional Background:

Before immigrating from his home country of Haiti, Yves was immersed in a world of animals, particularly around horses and dogs. While he always liked horses, nothing compared to the bond he built with his family’s dogs. After moving to the United States, Yves spent countless hours researching all things dogs. He volunteered at veterinary hospitals & rescues while simultaneously pursuing mentorships from canine professionals he’d find locally and online. Before long, Yves found himself adopting a Doberman puppy to call his own, Damien. This new relationship essentially guaranteed his commitment to a career in dogs, and the rest was history.

Yves joined KIBA K9s in 2022 after inquiring about potential programs that may give Damien an engaging activity to enjoy with him. His love for and dedication to his dog shined when he met Kirubell and the two formed a strong friendship almost immediately. Kirubell recommended Yves to leverage his natural affinity for dogs into a career path, and Yves took that suggestion and ran with it. His growth as a trainer since has put him on a fast track toward becoming a senior trainer, and his light-hearted, funny demeanor has made him an invaluable member of the KK9s family.

Although Yves spends almost all of his time on dogs since the last couple of years, he loves to hike, travel to warm places, try new foods, work out, and of course, just nap with his dog.
